Why Your Business Needs to Start Online Video Marketing Now

By Steve Querio on June 3, 2011

Online video marketing for companiesOnline video marketing for business has made a significant surge.  However, if you watched online video several years ago, you'd have probably thought that it would never have made the leap to the business world.  Much of it was kids performing tricks on skateboards and funny pet tricks.

But, online video has evolved (that's an understatement).  In fact, it's taken off like a rocket.

Business Using Online Video Marketing

"Dead tree marketing", like yellow page advertising and newspaper ads, are…well, dead.  It's all due to the fact that consumers have shifted their habits.  They are now watching online video…and lots of it.

In a February 2011 survey by YuMe and Frank N. Magid Associates, 66% of respondents indicated that they watch more online video now than they did 12 months ago.  They also found that 49% of respondents watch online video daily and averaged 7 hours of viewing per week.

But, even with those stats, most businesses have not kept up.  Many continue to only use the old traditional marketing routines.  Big mistake!

So, let me give you some tips on how to start using online video marketing for your business.

Keep the videos short

We're not talking about creating the next Stephen Spielberg full length movie here.  In fact, you'll want to keep most of your business videos under 5 minutes in length.  Consumers don't tend to watch long videos.  Get your message across in several minutes.  If it takes you longer than that, something is wrong to start with.

Videos for companies are now more affordable

Video production that previously cost a business tens of thousands of dollars to produce, is now much more affordable.  This means that there is no reason that even small businesses need to be left out.  In fact, with the right help or knowledge, they can easily compete with bigger business.

Tell the viewer what you want them to do next

When creating online video for companies, make sure that you tell the viewer what you want them to do.  The viewer needs to be told.  If you want them to buy something, tell them that and show them how to do it.  If you want them to call you, tell them that and give them your number.

Many viewers will do what you want them to do, but you must lead them by the hand.

If you haven't started using online video in your business, you need to start.  Don't be afraid of it, but if you need insight, just follow us on Facebook:  http://www.facebook.com/upwardclimb or follow our posts at Upward Climb.

Online Video Marketing For The Small Business

By Steve Querio on March 7, 2011

The world of communication has made some drastic changes in the last decade.  We have come from a time of face to face communications to a time of communication using various technologies.  We have left a time of slower interactions, like US mail, to faster processes, like email and instant messaging.  We've abandoned the long and tedious search for information, to now having most information at our fingertips.

Online Video Marketing For The Small Business

Video is one of the most popular tools of messaging today.  Unlike the past, where it was time consuming and very costly to create a video, it is now very affordable and relatively easy to put your message out there for all to see.

In fact, YouTube is now the second most popular search engine on the internet today.  People love to consume videos.

So, what does that mean for you…the business owner?

1.  You are now able to create affordable video marketing

As video technologies have continued to evolve over the years, the opportunity to produce and distribute video at a more affordable cost has also presented itself to the business owner.  In the past, in order to develop video marketing media for your small business, you'd have to hire a video production company, often use hired talent and distribute the video via television channels.  This all came with a hefty price tag, often too much for the average small business owner.

However, this is no longer the case.  You can now have videos produced and distributed at a much more affordable rate, providing the small business the ability to now compete with even the largest companies.

2.  You are able to direct your video to a tailored market

Not only has video marketing become more affordable, but you can now also be more selective at directing your video of your products and services to the right demographic.

One way to do this is to use keywords correctly.  Keywords are those words that you will use in your video descriptions that are searched for by those looking for your products or services.  For example, if you are a chiropractor and are creating a video, you want to use those terms that are searched for.  This may include 'back pain treatment' or 'treat neck pain'.

There are many other ways to get your videos in front of those that are your potential prospects.

3.  You are able to develop trust with the consumer

One of the most important aspects of selling your products or services for your business is developing trust with the buyer.  Fortunately, video provides you with a great opportunity to do this.

Video marketing can allow you the opportunity to put a 'face' of your business in front of the camera.  Do to the lowered cost of video production, you can create a series of videos that feature people within your business.  This may include the owner or various employees within the business.

Think of your own buying habits.  If you are like most, you'd much prefer to put a face to a product that you are deciding on buying.  By creating videos, with 'real people' from your business in them, you can develop a trust with the consumer that no other media source allows for.

4.  You are able to direct the viewer to take action

Wouldn't it be great to be able to automatically direct your prospective customers or clients to take the action you want them to take?  Well, with video you can.

With online video marketing, you can integrate your video directions with processes such as obtaining information or purchasing.  You are able to quickly embed buy buttons for the viewer to click on immediately.  You can embed links to take the viewer to other pages or resources that you want them to view.  You can capture viewer information with forms that the viewer can fill out when they finish watching your video.

This ability is very powerful and should be fully taken advantage of.

5.  You are able to create videos that are simple and quick

When you create video for your business, you don't need to create a 3 hour documentary film.  In fact, in most cases, a video that is less than 4 minutes is perfect.

The attention span of those that watch videos online is relatively short.  That's why you should try to keep your marketing videos short as well.  Viewers tend to begin to lose focus after several minutes.  Keeping your videos under 3-4 minutes in length is most effective.

Of course, there are times when longer videos can be very effective too.  This just depends on the content and what you are attempting to get across.  Viewers tend to have certain presumptions about video length.  A complex instructional video on massage technique is expected to be longer than a video about massage services for Valentines Day.  Video length is important.

Video marketing is now available for virtually every small business.  What was previously out of reach, is now accessible and now puts you on a level playing field with your competitors (even the large ones).

Homeless Man With The Golden Radio Voice Goes Viral

By Steve Querio on January 6, 2011 No Comments

I'm sure, by now, most of you have seen the video of the Homeless Man With The Golden Radio Voice.  In several days it's become an internet sensation and has taken the word 'viral' to a new level.

The man, whose name is Ted Williams, has a story that anyone would gravitate towards.  In short, he grew up and nutured his voice, later becoming successful in broadcasting.  However, he lost it all due to alcohol and drugs.

Fast forward and he is now homeless (but, clean for 2 years) on the streets of Columbus, Ohio – but one thing is clear…he never lost his unbelievable voice.  In fact, his voice is so good that a local reporter created a short video and with a quick upload….well, the rest is history.

As of this writing, this video has received over 12 million views in just 3 days!  This shows you the absolute power of online video.

As an information platform, video is more powerful than most would think.  Most think of sites like YouTube as a way to watch young kids fly off trampolines or skate down the library steps….with a pretty bad ankle break.  But, its much more than that.  YouTube is now the #2 search engine.

In 3 days, Ted Williams has gone from homeless, to being offered multiple jobs and a path out of homelessness.

Now think about your business.  If you are selling a product or offering a service, imagine the potential customers that could get a look at your business.  Many of those viewers would never have had the opportunity to know what your business was all about, let alone know it even existed.

Create videos that tell a story.  Don't just show off your products/services, but tell a little story 'behind the scenes'.  Tell the viewers about how you make the product, the special service they'll recieve from you or why you've decided to get into your business in the first place.

Video is the one tool that allows you to quickly, and affordably build a trust with your audience.  Think of how that trust will bring you new business and keep those customers coming back over and over again.

Best Wishes!

Steve
